Air Fryer Tomatoes

Tomatoesmust be one of my favourite foods ever. Or I should say just give me any fresh tomato and I amHAPPY. I love the taste and the smell especially when tomatoes are still on the vine.

Dominic rolls his eyes as I walk around the supermarket and sniff the tomatoes and insist on getting the more expensive tomato just because it smells better.

Then I will have them in the front of the car with me and will have eaten them all before Dominic has driven us home.

If they do make it home, they will be sprinkled with salt, pepper andoreganoand cookedin the air fryer.

They can then be paired with a full English Breakfast, a side for your steak and chips, as a breakfast when you followthe Whole30or Paleo, or just as a healthy snack.

I like them no matter what shape of size my tomatoes come in. I love cherry tomatoes and eat them like others eat a packet of crisps. No wonder then that I have another recipe for air fryer cherry tomatoes.

Can You Roast Tomatoes In Air Fryer?

Yes you can air fry tomatoes.

I often get asked this because people are always shocked when I talk about how often I put some tomatoes in the air fryer.

You can also cook cherry tomatoes, grilled tomatoes or roasted tomatoes in the air fryer.

The choice is yours.

Air Fryer Grilled Tomatoes

My favourite thing aboutthe air fryeris the simplicity. The fact that you can just lightly season some food, place it in the air fryer and then let it cook. Then when it beeps serve it.

There is absolutely no oil involved in my grilled tomatoes in the air fryer. You literally slice them in half, season them and air fry.

You can also do a big batch of them or cook them at the same time as other food.

How Long Do Roasted Tomatoes Keep?

Once you have roasted your tomatoes in the air fryer, you can keep them in the fridge for 3 days. BUT roasted tomatoes taste best when they are still warm, so I recommend you air fry your tomatoes as and when you plan to eat them.

Or you can roast the tomatoes first in the air fryer and then use them in our speed soup, or our instant pot tomato soup.

Notes

Quantities. I can fit 9 slices of tomatoes in my Philips Air Fryer XL which is the same as 4.5 tomatoes. I recommend if you have a lot of tomatoes to cook that you do it in batches.

Soup. If you have a favourite soup recipe that calls for roasted tomatoes, then you can use this recipe. And unlike a classic roasted tomato soup you can keep oil at zero.

What is the first thing I should cook in my air fryer? ›

Air fryers are versatile kitchen appliances that can be used to cook a variety of foods quickly and easily. If you're using an air fryer for the first time, it's best to start with something simple, like French fries, chicken wings or vegetables.

What is the most popular thing to make in an air fryer? ›

French fries are arguably the most popular thing to cook in an air fryer. Air fryers use a fraction of the oil as deep-frying, and making French fries in one results in an appreciably crisp exterior and fluffy inside without the greasiness.

Do cooked tomatoes taste good? ›

Even a dull, insipid tomato will develop a personality in the oven. The key is roasting: high heat cooks off much of the water in the tomato and thereby concentrates flavor. It also caramelizes the fruit's natural sugars.

Do I need to peel tomatoes before roasting? ›

Do I need to peel tomatoes before roasting? No need to peel the tomatoes before you roast them! This dramatically cuts down the time needed to make your own homemade sauce. No more cooking them over a hot stove, and then forcing them through a sieve to remove all the skins and seeds.

Why do cooked tomatoes taste different? ›

Cooking or baking breaks down the cell walls and structure of the tomatoes, releasing the contents and flavors within the cells.

Yes, there are other ways to make your tomatoes taste even better and increase the acidity. There is lemon, vinegar, or my personal favorite, balsamic. Just imagine a tomato bruschetta with a balsamic vinaigrette drizzled on top. Yummy!

Why do you add sugar when cooking tomatoes? ›

The traditional thinking behind adding sugar to tomato sauce is based on the idea that it will balance out the natural acidity of tomatoes.

How do you get the most flavor out of tomatoes? ›

Is there anything you shouldn t put in an air fryer? ›

You also want to avoid putting food that has a wet batter, like corndogs or tempura shrimp, in air fryers. Wet batter goes everywhere, and without a proper oil bath the batter won't set, which means it won't be the crispy, fried item you hoped it would be, according to Polak.

Is it unhealthy to air fry vegetables? ›

An air fryer is a healthier option than deep frying foods and can be an inventive way to fry not only meats and potatoes but other nutritious foods such as broccoli, yams, tofu, or eggs.
