When I talked with legendary NASCAR crew chief Larry McReynolds last fall, he told me that no NASCAR team has ever gone through more than Davey Allison and the Texaco No. 28 team did in 1992. In this clip from my interview with Larry, he details the struggles that Davey Allison went through, the highs and lows of the season, and the Winston Cup Championship battle that came down to the wire in the infamous Hooters 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.https://lnkd.in/gVME-wfv

Postcards: The Roots of NASCAR Card Collecting: While NASCAR's earliest recognized trading card sets date to the 1970s, there are plenty of postcards featuring some of the sport's legends that were produced long before that--and most aren't expensive. https://lnkd.in/gVTuVnss #VintageSportsCardNews #NASCAR #NASCARcards | @CollectingAll

Being able to consisely educate consumers without slighting or dispariging the stakeholders was the branding challenge and one that I feel we've overcome with the NASCAR Regional branding. It was quickly evident in our search to define the foundational business of NASCAR that it’s definition meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Roots. Weekly. Touring. Grassroots. Origins. Ladder. Home Tracks. All of these terms have been used to group the steps that ladder up into NASCAR’s top three national series. It was a bit confusing and disjointed and awkward. If we’re going to market the term needed a bit more clarity and simplicity. Whether it's our broadcast consumers or commercial partners, NASCAR Regional is able to go to market with an aggregation of platform assets in order to make an impact across our official ladder system. Using a more widely accepted vernacular allows quicker understanding of the assets and also gives room to grow the official NASCAR ladder system portfolio. All of that said - this rebrand took a good amount of work with collaboration and effort across multiple departments and I’m honored to see it come to fruition in my short time at NASCAR. Lauren Wescoat ran point from our team but the Weekly, Editorial, Digital, Broadcast, Comms and Competition departments all have their fingerprints on this one with a big shoutout to David Zane and Patrick Morris ‘ brand team that brought this from problem to solution. The first step in organizing it is defining it. Excited to take the next step…

How do you create the winningest team in NASCAR history?👇The President of Joe Gibbs Racing, Dave Alpern, talked with me about focusing on their True North: Go Faster. 🏁Every organization should know their purpose and daily objective in one sentence. For Joe Gibbs Racing, the purpose is to Go Faster. Every decision they made for thirty years filtered through that one question: “Will this make us go faster?” Their philosophy is simple: If we lead the most laps and win the most races, everything else (sponsorships, marketing, recruiting talent) will take care of itself. For every purchasing decision they asked “Will this make us go faster?”For 15 years, Joe Gibbs Racing had no sign out front in their business park. 🏢Spending 💲 on the expensive signage did not directly help their true north of going faster. It became a symbol and badge of honor for team members in the organization to keep all focus on making every decision and resource towards their true north. Nifty And Speedy Criminal Alcohol Racing …is what NASCAR should stand for. I’m just kidding. But that could definitely be used to explain how NASCAR started. The origins of NASCAR trace back to the 1920’s when the USA banned alcohol. People started making alcohol at home and the daring ones started smuggling it. These daring ones gave birth to NASCAR - one of the top-ranked motorsports organizations in the world. Follow me for more such interesting stories! #storytelling #motorsport #formula1
